Vocabulary Quizzes:
Students will be provided with a vocabulary list on the 2nd day of class. This list contains all the vocabulary students will be learning throughout the 9 weeks. Quizzes will be daily starting the 4th day of class. Each quiz will consist of 30 words and will be given at the beginning of every class. Students will be provided with the definitions by me daily to study. If you would like a copy of this list, please email me, so I can send it as an attachment.
Critical Reading:
As a class we will do a lot of reading aloud with critical reading passages. We will analyze the different types of reading passages and strategies on how to decipher the correct answers. Students will be asked to try the passages first by themselves and then together as a class for better understanding. Just like the actual SAT test, I will not require students to answer all the questions. I require them to answer 50% of the questions to learn to differentiate on which questions they think they could get correct.
Writing and Grammar:
Students will learn a guideline to help them become better writers for the SAT. Following these guidelines should boost writing scores. Timed writings will be done periodically throughout the 9 weeks. Along with this, key grammar elements will be studied as well to increase the writing scores even more. Things to practice outside of school deal with the following: subject/verb agreement, comma usage, parallel structure, and verb tenses.
